- What year did you start racing mountain bikes?
1998
- What is your best result so far? (example: 3rd Place Senior Expert Men - Mt. Snow, VT - 2000)
2nd at Bonelli Park 1999 (MESP days)
5th Sagebrush Safari 2009
9th Fontana 2009
4th Santa Ynez 2009
- What is the most and least number of hours that you train in
a week? (Not zero but the least number of hours you actually train)
4-12
- Name your favorite XC and/or DOWNHILL race course?
Sagebrush is a great venue! The opening climb to four-corners kinda sucks. But the twisty, smooth single track puts a smile on your face.
- Name your favorite place to ride:
Mammoth Mountain
Los Robles Trail
Sycamore Canyon
Rocky Peak
- What is the longest distance or number of hours that you have
ridden XC in one day on a mountain bike? (EXCLUDING A 24 OR 12 HOUR RACE
unless SOLO!)
4 hours
- How much of your training is on the road?
Almost zero. Only when it gets too hot in the hills do I tend to jump on the road bike. I hate cars!
- Do you cross train or use weights?
Sometimes. Right now I'm in cycling mode.
- Do you use supplements or sport drinks?
Gels and Heed sport drink.
- Do you do anything special (besides the whole training
lifestyle) to prepare for an important race?
Eat pasta the night before. Drink lots of water during the week prior to. Keep a positive attitude. You never know how your going feel until your out there racing. Sometimes all the preparation goes right out the window.
- Do you use a heart rate monitor?
Yes. I like using one because it lets me know when I'm slacking.
- Do you keep a training log?
Yes.
- What do you consider your strong points on a race course,
hills, technical sections, downhills?
I've always been a pretty strong climber. Although, I do pick off a numbers of riders on the descents most the time.
- What aspect of mountain biking is the most fun for you?
I love buying new gear! Trying to explain to non-mountain bikers that I climbed "that hill" the other day. It usually doesn't register. Most people just don't get it!
- What is your greatest moment (biggest rush) that you have
experienced on your MOUNTAIN BIKE?
Probably the 2009 racing season in general. After being away from the whole race scene for a number of years, it feels great to still be able to compete and place in the top 10.
- Do you have any suggestions for Beginner racers?
When your waiting at the Start/Finish to head out, remember, everyone else feels the same way you do. Mountain bike racing comes down to alot of aspects, but the major one is who can suffer the longest.
